Program Note

May the Sun takes the text of an ancient Apache blessing and beautifully sets it for eight SA voices. The main motive sung, as a compound rhythm between the choir, is derived from the hand pan accompaniment. The pan provides a solid home base for the choir to rely on. While the verses find themselves in a calm 4/4 time signature, the chorus guides the listener through an exhilarating 7/8 meter. Filled with mesmerizing overlapping rhythms and beautiful extended harmonies, May the Sun provides an unforgettable aural experience as if the listener were receiving the following blessing:
